Salinan gets 19 months for attempted arson

11/17/2008

A Salina man who pleaded no contest to attempted aggravated arson was sentenced to 19 months in prison in Saline County District Court Monday.
DeMarcus L. Wilson, 30, filled a room at Best Inn, 1220 W. North, with smoke by cooking an ashtray, cigarette butts and fast food wrappers in a microwave oven after he was asked to leave the motel on Aug. 31, a motel manager reported to police.
There was a small burn mark on the wall from the microwave, which was also damaged. The damage from the smoke and fire was estimated at $100, according to a police report.
