Brigade to 'adopt' schools, KWU
The U.S. Army's Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Riley will formally sign "Adopt-a-School" agreements this evening with Kansas Wesleyan University, St. John's Military School and Stewart, Schilling and Sunset elementary schools.
The signing ceremony will take place between the first and second quarters of tonight's football game between Kansas Wesleyan and Sterling College. Students from each of the schools entering into the partnership will be at the signing ceremony.
The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a "Community Day" tailgate party for chamber members beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Salina Stadium. Cost is $10 for the tailgate and the game, or $5 for each if purchased separately.
The Adopt-a-School program is intended to improve relationships between the military and local communities. Soldiers will be encouraged to volunteer in the schools in various ways, such as tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or participating in field trips.
