Preliminary terms for the sale of 6.77 acres of land in the Salina Airport Industrial Center were approved Friday in a special Salina Airport Authority meeting.
Dallas-based Fischer & Co., a corporate real estate firm, asked for the letter of terms so that its client can obtain bids for a project.
The name of the client was not revealed.
The vote came after the board met behind closed doors for 20 minutes, half of that time with Dennis Lauver, president and CEO of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce.
The board accepted a preliminary purchase price of $16,000 an acre for the tract of land at the corner of Water Well Road and Scanlan Avenue, adjacent to Salina Vortex.
The client is considering building a small package delivery business on the land, according to a proposal from Fischer & Company.
The preliminary terms in the contract are "subject to negotiations," said Tim Rogers, airport authority executive director.
The airport authority is in talks with Zimmer Real Estate Services, of Kansas City, Mo., to perform a marketing and competitive analysis study. Zimmer has proposed to compare the assets, both in the airport industrial center and the Salina community, with similar properties in other areas of the country, said Melissa McCoy, the airport authority's manager of public affairs and communications. The proposed fee would be a maximum of $5,800, said Tracey Mann, vice president of Zimmer's industrial division, based in the company's Salina office.
The airport authority is also negotiating with Carl B. Willis, an aerospace industry expert from Sacramento, Calif., to help promote the airport area to aviation and aerospace prospects, Rogers said.
