Members of Service Academy Selection Board named

Service Academy members named

Several residents of north-central and northwest Kansas have been named by Congressman Jerry Moran to the 2009 First District Service Academy Selection Board.

The 16-member board reviews applications and interviews candidates who are applying for admission to U.S. Service Academies. These include the U.S Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The members of the 2009 First District Service Academy Selection Board from north-central and northwest Kansas are Shirley Braxton of Salina, community volunteer; Susan Concannon of Beloit, executive director for Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation; Mike Junk of Salina, president of Crestwood, U.S. Air Force Academy graduate; Ron Lucas of Goodland, owner/manager of Goodland Greenline, U.S. Army; Richard Schwartz of Marion, retired colonel, U.S. Marine Corps; the Rev. Delbert Stanton, of Hays, who served Kansas United Methodist churches in Udall, WaKeeney, Atwood, Medicine Lodge, Wichita and Hays, and Dane G. Hansen Foundation Scholarship Committee in Logan.

Trash pickup as usual on Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, Wednesday, the city's Sanitation Division will run regularly scheduled trash collection routes. The city landfill will also be open during regularly scheduled hours from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility will not be open.
