LUCAS -- A Lucas-Luray High School teacher was arrested Thursday on a charge alleging she had a sexual relationship with one of her male students.
According to a news release from the Russell County Sheriff's Office, the student's parents called the sheriff's office on Jan. 20 and alleged that their son had been having a sexual relationship with Nina Urban, of Lucas.
After a nine-day investigation by the sheriff's office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday.
Urban, who turned herself in to the sheriff's custody, is facing a charge of unlawful sexual relations. She posted a $10,000 bond and was released, according to the press release.
Urban has been placed on administrative leave from her teaching post.
A representative of the district court clerk's office in Russell said Urban is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 12.
The Lucas-Luray High School Web site lists Urban as a first-year English teacher at the school. She graduated from Bethany College in 2006, the college's Web site states.
Russell County Sheriff John Fletcher serves on the Lucas-Luray School Board with board member David Urban.
He would not comment Thursday on whether the two Urbans are related or discuss any other details about the case.
School district officials and other board members were not available for comment Thursday.

Back when I was in school three of my teachers had more than one affair with students. One of the teachers was married. The other two have gone on to marry their students and are still married to this day. This is so common more than we know! We shouldn't judge others actions.

Ms. Urban's parents are very GOOD people. PLEASE quit bashing them for the mistake that their daughter made. David has been a super leader on both the Schoolboard and the City of Lucas council. As someone said before we can raise our kids andn hope they make the right decisions in their adult life, Ms. Urban didn't. Parent's can not remain with their children for a life time! This was going on last year perhaps the principal chose to sweep it under the rug! Maybe he should be looked at as Guilty too! Hopefully this will be settled and all the boys she has had sexual relations with can move on and it will put an end to the beer and cigarette sales for our underage school students! Please keep Lucas and Luray in your prayers as I am.

A child under 16 cannot give consent and if there is sexual activity with an adult it is rape of a child. A teacher (or any staff member) is not allowed to have sexual relations with any student under 18. It is a crime and the perp should be jailed. These adults in the school system should be smarter then that.

A teacher must be held to a higher set of standards much like a Doctor or policeman. A person of authority should not be exempt by the 16 year age for consent. Otherwise messes like this and other examples of adults taking advantage or preying on juveniles would be rampant. If your a coach, big brother or big sister or other such adult with direct association to an individual child and you cross that line sexually, your no longer part of the solution, your part of the sick and twisted problem. Make all child rapists pay with severe mandatory harsh sentencing if convicted?

USD 407 is very lax regarding sexual deviants. Urban is not the only employee at Lucas-Luray to "allegedly" be sexually involved with a male student. It will not surprise me if Urban gets a slap on the wrist and then moves on to her next teaching job. As a parent, it is extremely difficult to allow my children to continue going to school there. At least Urban is temporarily gone, but the other deviant is still there. This is such an embarrassment to the community.

For those of you who are not familiar with the laws of Kansas, IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR A TEACHER BEING AN ATHORITY FIGURE TO HAVE SEXUAL OR INAPPROPRATE RELATIONS WITH A STUDENT . This includes any sexual contact, discussing subjects that are inapproprate at anytime, and buying cigerattes and alcohol for students.

When you grow up and have a family of your own, you will then know how wrong it is to take advantage of a teenager. You will not want an adult engaging in sexual activities with your child, nor will you want an adult to supply your child(ren) with substances that are illegal for them to have (i.e. tobacco and alcohol). IF you do not believe that this is wrong and you allow this to happen to any future children you procreate, I feel very sorry for your ignorance and I feel sorry for your children.

To the family member who claims the young high school student instigated this inappropriate sexual relation is in La-La Land; I find this very hard to believe. As parents, we raise our children to make good choices. However when the children get away from home they become overcome by some pressure and sometimes make the wrong decisions, unfortunately we can't live with our kids forever. We just pray our grown children make the right decisions or if they are wrong; that they are not this wrong and they learn from their mistakes! Do we blame the parents of Ms. Urban? NO, She made this decision on her own! The saddest part of all is this is a person (teacher) whom a student puts a lot of trust in, and so do parents because they are with them 7-8 hours a day. It is a teacher and administrator's duty to not only teach, but also provide a safe environment to learn in, and set examples for our young people! I believe Ms. Urban missed that class at Bethany to many times!

There was a similar case in Texas: a teenage boy accused his female teacher of having sex with him. But he kept telling different versions. Meanwhile, he destroyed her life and her career. Finally an FBI agent put both on lie detectors and found out the boy was lying all the time. He should have been hanged from the nearest tree for this false accusation, to send a message to other liars.

There are several other boys who may have been raped also who MUST come forward and get her in prison if she is guilty. Look, I'm from that community, and it's all true. Nothing ever gets prosecuted in Russell county, so the sheriff not being involved is a positive in my opinion. Several people have been killed in drunk driving accidents and the driver gets a slap on the wrist. So the KBI being involved means something might actually get done. A CHILD accuses an authority figure of sexual miscondut and the world goes nuts! don't wait for the proven guilty part, people make the accused's life miserable. Some cases such as this are exactly like stated in an earlier post..... every teenage boy's fantasty!!! If more facts are brought forward, and it is brought to light that the accuser has instigated the alleged misconduct, what happens to the child? He merrily skips on with his life, while the authority figure is scarred for life, innocent or guilty! IMO, the kids involved need to be punished also for ruining someone's life, if indeed, the kid is the one who brought the situation about.

Actually the fact that he serves on the school board as well would be considered a conflict of interest, whether or not her father is on the school board is irrevelant. He is not a part of the investigateion where as the Sheriff is. The Sheriff should resign himself from the case and give it to someone else. Most places would not stand for him being on the investigation. That is why you have other law enforecement too is for instances like this.

Just because this is happening all over the country does not make it RIGHT! As an adult this Ms. Urban knew her boundaries and she was way out of the lines. People, this is not alright an there are NO Excuses--kids do not understand the outcomes of some of their choices, that's why they have parents. However when there is a sly teacher or other sexual adult predator in a student's life that they trust, things can become complicated for them! These parents did the right thing by calling the law, if not,think about it, the next child might have been yours! I wish God Speed to Lucas in their healing process.

You know what young men need to realize it's not morally right even though media blows it up as the "Hot" thing to do. If we all went down the tubes morally everyone would be sleep n with each others significant other and letting lust rule the world. Eventually all you innocent, shallow minded people will learn that without control of innapropriate actions, our society would be rampant like other nations that have allowed those things to take over...it is scary to think that if the next generation thinks so immaturely what will happen to our society. You can enjoy life but use common sense when you're out of control. As for this Nina chick, you should have never went into working with young males if you can't control yourself. These days you have to be a very strong person morally to not allow them to suck you in either because as I already stated, they think it a goal to sleep with a female teacher. It's all about status, attention, and boosting self-esteem that they know not how to do in other ways. And it's no excuse that parents aren't in their lives enough or teaching them morals. Ya both need to be doing better jobs. Parents aren't demonstrating good behavior themselves half the time..molesting their own kids, abusing them, not being emotionally there for them. Seriously we need a program in school that teaches kids how to communicate and deal with emotions in a positive healthy manner.

I would hope that Sheriff Fletcher would not be involved in the investigation considering the fact that he serves on the School Board with Ms. Urban's father, David Urban.

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. Already this year they have documented over 35 of these types of incidents. Last year they found 479 of these kinds of cases.
