Salina man arrested after short chase

A Salina man was arrested Wednesday and accused of fleeing a crash during a police pursuit.

A car was southbound on Ninth Street about 9:30 p.m. with its headlights off when officers began the pursuit, according to a Salina Police Department report.

The car crossed into the northbound lane at Ninth and South streets, where it struck a car driven by Mathew Cody Whitmer, 20, 147 N. Eighth, and continued on, according to the report. Nobody was hurt in the crash.

The car was stopped a short time later and police arrested Anthony Don Miszkwitz, 24, 1401 Glenshire.

Man injured in car, semi crash

BURNS -- A collision between a Nissan passenger car and a semitrailer in Marion County resulted in the car's driver being taken to the hospital early Friday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Justin French, 23, of Wichita, was driving a 1990 Nissan north on U.S. Highway 77 just north of Burns when the car ran into the back of the semi, driven by Delbert Wiebe, 74, of Whitewater.

French was taken by ambulance to Hillsboro Community Medical Center; Wiebe was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Water patrol: Forget may have slipped

ST. LOUIS -- A memorial service is planned for John-Paul Forget, the suburban St. Louis man who jumped into the Missouri River earlier this month.

The Missouri State Water Patrol has been unable to find Forget's body yet, due to ice on the river.

The 20-year-old was involved in a minor accident Dec. 16 on Interstate Highway 70 about 15 miles west of Columbia.

He and his passengers were walking off the bridge when Forget apparently tried to jump out of the way of an oncoming tractor trailer.

A spokesman with the Missouri Water Patrol says it's unclear whether Forget leapt directly off the bridge, or tried to get up on the sides and slipped. Conditions that night were icy.

The memorial service for Forget will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Alban Roe Catholic Church in Wildwood. He was a student at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.
