All of the $50 dinner tickets to the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce banquet featuring former Alaska governor Sarah Palin have been sold, and chamber president and CEO Dennis Lauver said workers Wednesday began processing requests for gallery seating.

Lauver said 1,408 dinner tickets were available to hear the former Republican vice presidential candidate, who is the speaker for the annual chamber meeting and dinner Feb. 5.

"We have substantially more ticket requests than that," he said Wednesday morning. "I can't say exactly how many. I'd say we're probably approaching twice that amount, really."

Gallery seating at the Bicentennial Center is available at $25 a ticket. Lauver said workers have begun calling people who requested dinner tickets and asking if they would take gallery tickets instead.

"There will be some who wanted a table but won't get a table," Lauver said. "They will be offered seats in the gallery. Our expectation is that they will say yes."

The orders are being processed as they were received, he said.

At the same time, Lauver said, orders still are being accepted. New orders will be processed as quickly as possible.

"We're just asking that everyone be patient," Lauver said.

Those who wish to order gallery tickets may call the chamber, 827-9301, go to the Web site, www.salinakansas.org, or stop by the chamber office, 120 W. Ash.
