U.Way celebration set for Thursday
A celebration of the 2009 United Way Campaign is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Outlaw Cycles, 901 E. Crawford.
Cost is $5 a person at the door, and reservations are requested by calling the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, 827-9302, or e-mailing mingreham@salina kansas.com.
Neely to perform benefit concert
The band Neely will hold a live acoustic performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at President's Place Auditorium, 245 S. Eighth, to benefit the North Central Kansas Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Tony Bowell will be the opening act.
All proceeds will go to help people served by the Red Cross.
Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at House of Sight and Sound, 1300 S. Santa Fe; the Red Cross office, 145 S. Broadway; and online at www.neelymusic.com. Youth groups of 10 or more may buy advance tickets at the Red Cross office for $12 each.
CCCC to recognize church workers
CONCORDIA -- Area residents involved in any type of church work will be guests of Cloud County Community College for "Faith Day" at the basketball game.
Faith Day will be Sunday, as Cloud County Community College takes on Haskell JV. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
Free admission to the game will be offered, and guests will be treated to a hospitality room, which opens at 3:30 p.m. in Room 222. During half-time, the college will recognize its Fellowship of Christian Athletes members and their sponsor, Ted Schmitz.

Art center's holiday event is Saturday
The Salina Art Center's annual Holiday Open House is noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at 242 S. Santa Fe.
Activities will include creating holiday cards and touring the exhibit "The Storyteller."

Cookies & Stories planned at library
Children will have the opportunity to decorate cookies while listening to favorite Christmas stories during special December story times at the Salina Public Library.
Cookies & Stories will be in the Prescott Room at the Salina Public Library. The times are 4 p.m. Dec. 7, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8, 10 a.m. Dec. 9, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and 2 p.m. Dec. 11.
Children will decorate cookies, hear stories, sing songs, see a puppet play and more. Santa also will stop by.
There is limited enrollment for each session. Signup for all sessions begins Nov. 26, and signup is required at least a week in advance. To sign up, visit the library or call 825-4624, ext. 230.
Last year, Santa visited with more than 250 children at the library.
