The first of two groups of Kansas National Guard soldiers will be welcomed back from Iraq at a public ceremony at 10:45 a.m. Thursday in Building 600 at the Salina Municipal Airport.
According to a news release from the Kansas Adjutant General's Department, the soldiers have served a year in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
About 75 Kansas National Guard soldiers of the 287th Special Troop Battalion, 287th Sustainment Brigade, will be recognized on Thursday, with the remainder -- about 180 soldiers -- to be welcomed home next week. The doors to the public will open at 9 a.m.
Soldiers of the 287th served as the logistical support for U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq.
The ceremony to honor the remainder of the soldiers tentatively is planned for next week in Salina. Details regarding the time and location will be released later.
The 287th Sustainment Brigade, headquartered in Wichita, is also made up of the 169th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, headquartered in Olathe; the 891st Engineer Battalion, headquartered in Iola; and the 287th Special Troop Battalion, headquartered in Hays, as well as subordinate units in each battalion.

Proud of my brother-in-law, SSG. Terrence D. Burgess. Glad he is back home with his family.
