Kansas Day event set at Pawnee museum
REPUBLIC -- Pawnee Indian Museum State Historic Site plans a Kansas Day event Jan. 27 honoring the state animal, the American bison (buffalo).
The free gathering marks the 151st anniversary of Kansas statehood, Jan. 29, 1861.
Included will be a special exhibit of antique bison prints from the 1700s and 1800s and a drawing for a bison skull painted by a Pawnee elder. The skull was donated for the drawing by the Friends of Pawnee Indian Museum, a nonprofit organization that supports the programs of the museum.
Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
Pawnee Indian Museum is located at 480 Pawnee Trail in Republic. To learn more, call (785) 361-2255 or visit kshs.org.
