End of an era
1/29/2012
During the 28 years that Charlie Grimwood has been a board member at the Salina-Saline County Health Department, he’s enjoyed the freshly popped popcorn served at each meeting.
So it was fitting that board members and health department officials celebrated Grimwood’s last day of service on Jan. 24 by giving him a box of microwave popcorn as a going away gift.
And since it was the health department, after all, the popcorn was light on the butter and made with canola oil.
Grimwood, vice president for regional development at Salina Regional Health Center, said he was going to miss attending the monthly meetings.
"I’ll have to pop my own popcorn now," he said.
On a more serious note, Grimwood said that he learned a lot about public health and the dedication of the health department staff during his many years on the board.
"The work they do is very important," he said. "They don’t work to get rich or for public recognition. They’re dedicated to what they do and are passionate about it."
