Saline County commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved an agreement with Honeywell for an energy-saving audit of county government buildings.
The audit is a step in the county's participation in the state-funded facility conservation improvement program.
Through the program, public agencies can access financing for planning and implementing energy-saving upgrades, such as replacing windows and making heating and cooling systems more efficient.
Savings through the program are guaranteed to meet or exceed annual payments necessary to cover the project costs -- usually over a contract term between 10 and 15 years.
The buildings to be audited include the sheriff's office, road and bridge department, the Expo and Livestock Center, and the county offices in the City-County Building.
Recommendations
Honeywell representative Phyllis Baker told commissioners that it will likely be mid-January when the company returns with recommendations for energy savings opportunities for each department.
Dave Nowak, the county's road and bridge director, told commissioners at their formal meeting that the estimated cost for the audit of $24,434 will be incorporated into the project costs. The audit would likely be financed through a grant from the Kansas Energy Office. If grants are unavailable, the county would pay the cost.
Commissioners Tuesday also:
n Approved vacating portions of Stimmel, Miller and Sunnyside roads, and a portion of Third Street in Glendale. Adjacent property owners petitioned to have the land vacated. The vacated portions were platted but never developed as roads.
n Approved the reappointments of Kristin Hernandez and Kevin Carrico to the Community Corrections Advisory Board and the appointment of Randy Picking to the board as a new member.
