Commission OKs fire truck, cellular phone contract

Saline County Commissioners Tuesday approved the purchase of a quick-attack fire truck to haul water and foam for Rural Fire District 6, Smolan, at a cost of $103,500, from Weis Fire & Safety of Salina.

The demo unit was estimated to cost less than a new unit, which would range from $115,000 to $125,000, said Rural Fire Chief Larry Hall.

In other business, commissioners:

n Approved a new cellular phone contract with U.S. Cellular for cell phones for county departments. The cost under the contract is $22.94 a phone each month.

n Added an amendment to the county's building code ordinance saying the county will use the building codes that the city has recommended and adopted.
