CityGo to give free bus rides in exchange for food donations
Free rides offered to those who donate
Salina's CityGo bus service next week will spread holiday goodwill by giving those who donate a nonperishable food item free rides.
Between Monday and Friday, CityGo passengers will receive a pass, good for free rides for one day, with the donation of any nonperishable food item. Those include canned vegetables and fruit, boxed meals, cereal, pasta, rice and canned meat. The day pass, valued at $2, can be used immediately and includes transfers and return trips.
Salina-based OCCK, which operates CityGo in partnership with the city of Salina and the Kansas Department of Transportation, will donate all of the food items to the Salina Salvation Army food pantry. The Salvation Army regularly distributes cooked meals and nonperishable food to families in need throughout the area.
Each CityGo bus will have a collection box. Passengers are asked to bring one food item or more to place in the box.
CityGo debuted full service on Dec. 1, and in its first full week of operation, it had 1,562 passengers.
Permits, licenses available Monday
SYLVAN GROVE -- Annual permits and licenses for 2009 camping, fishing and hunting in state parks will be available beginning Dec. 15.
The permits and licenses will be available on the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Web site at www.kdwp.state.ks.us, or at any regular license vendor. A list of such vendors, organized by county, is also available on the department Web site.
Note that some vendors can sell only temporary vehicle and camping permits, but those permits can be exchanged at park offices for permanent permits.
Camping reservations for the 2009 season at Wilson State Park can be made starting Jan. 5, with walk-in reservations taking priority over phone-in reservations.
For more information, contact the park office at (785) 658-2465.
