Bethany College receives $175,000 gift

LINDSBORG —Bethany College has received $175,000 from the estate of the daughter of two Bethany alumni.
According to a news release from the college, Nella Jean Swenson, of Hyattsville, Md., and Washington, D.C., died Feb. 6. Her parents, the late Roy and Faye Swenson, established the trust that she in turn left to Bethany.
Swenson’s gift will support the Bethany Annual Scholars Fund, which provides scholarships to students.
Both Roy and Faye Swenson were natives of Marquette. Roy Swenson was born to Swedish immigrant farm parents and earned his bachelor’s from Bethany in 1915. Following work in a tool company in Ohio, he went to Washington, D.C., in 1917 to enter government service as a junior engineer.
