The Salina Journal
Marion County Lake is among six Kansas lakes where high levels of toxic blue-green algae have been detected, prompting a warning by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Under the warning, direct water contact (wading, skiing, and swimming) should not occur. In addition, the water is not considered safe to drink; fish should be well-cleaned and only the fillet portion should be consumed; and, pets should not come into contact or drink the water.
In addition, a water advisory has been issued for five lakes, including Marion Reservoir, Old Herington City Lake and Logan City Lake in Phillips County. Under a water advisory, water activities such as boating and fishing may be safe; however, direct contact with water (wading, swimming) is strongly discouraged for people and pets.
