Area residents appointed to state boards

Area residents from Assaria, St. Francis and Hays were among those appointed to boards and commissions by Gov. Sam Brownback:

* Kansas Sentencing Commission, Kevin Berens, St. Francis, is an attorney in private practice and serves as county attorney for Thomas County and Bird City.

* Kansas Pet Animal Advisory Board, Lori Heimer, Assaria, has worked as a retail poodle breeder, teacher and an infant/toddler specialist. She is also involved in 4-H, the Lady Lions, and Emu Zone 3.

* Kansas State Board of Accountancy, Kathryn Mitchell, Hays, has been a member of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1982, and served as the president of the board in 2002-2003. She has been a CPA for Brundgardt, Hower, Ward, Elliot Pfeifer since 1982.

* Kansas Physician Assistant Council, Kimberly Dansel, Weskan, is a physician assistant and has been on the National Commission of Certification of Physician's Assistants since 2006.
