Benny Smith will discuss the Native American medicine wheel and its meanings at a free presentation from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron.
Smith is a Cherokee Elder, a language and cultural consultant for the Cherokee Nation and retired director of the counseling center at Haskell Indian University. He has spent more than 40 years in the formal education system. English is his second language, with Cherokee being his first. He also is an accomplished horse trainer.
