Physician to speak about new way of performing CPR

McPHERSON -- Dr. Gordon A. Ewy, a Kansas native and graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School, will present a free lecture at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McPherson Opera House Auditorium.

Ewy currently serves as a professor of medicine and director of Sarver Heart Center at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He is co-author of four books and has published numerous book chapters, reviews and editorials and more than 270 scientific articles.

Ewy is known for his research on defibrillation and resuscitation and established the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center Resuscitation Research Group. The discoveries of this group have led to the concept of Cardiocerebral Resuscitation. Cardiocerebral Resuscitation advocates continuous chest-compression CPR for bystanders of witnessed primary cardiac arrest and a new approach by paramedics and firefighters to the therapy of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Cardiocerebral Resuscitation has been shown to improve survival rates.

In his McPherson lecture, "Chest Compression-Only CPR," Ewy will discuss his research and findings. Testimonials will be given by local residents.

The public is invited to the free lecture.
