Sampler announces 8 Wonders winners
The Kansas Sampler Foundation Friday announced the 8 Wonders of Kansas Customs.
The winners are:
nBringing musicians together: A jam session at Emma Chase Cafe in Cottonwood Falls almost every Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
nChanting a school fight song: The University of Kansas Rock Chalk Jayhawk cheer is an example.
nClicking your heels three times and saying, "There's no place like home": Oz attractions in Wamego and Liberal tell the story of "The Wizard of Oz."
nCommemorating Veterans Day: An Emporia man helped change Armistice Day into Veterans Day.
nDisplaying an ethnic handicraft: Traditional and pop-art Dala Horses throughout Lindsborg.
nOrdering a soda fountain treat: There are 38 operating soda fountains in Kansas, including in Abilene, Canton, Beloit, Glasco, Herington, Hays, Quinter and WaKeeney.
nRiding a carousel: Abilene and Leavenworth have famous C.W. Parker carousels.
nUsing natural material for fencing: Fence posts are at Post Rock Museum in La Crosse, and visitors can see them throughout the Smoky Hills.
