Salinans accused of burglary at business

Salina police arrested two people Saturday and recovered property that was stolen in a Sept. 4 burglary at Copper Tan, 623 E. Crawford.

Thirty-three unopened bottles of tanning lotion, 12 home decor items, two bank money bags, $2.23 in coins and an Emerson Research brand iPod stereo valued at $2,912 were recovered from 837 E. Wayne No. 304, according to a police report.

Jose P. Robles, 20, 837 E. Wayne No. 304, was accused of burglary and possession of stolen property. According to the police report, the second person arrested was Dorothy J. Baird, 22, also of 837 E. Wayne No. 304. Her name was recorded as Dorothy J. Gardea on Saline County Jail records.

Chapman teenager injured in crash

JUNCTION CITY -- A 17-year-old Chapman girl was injured Sunday when her pickup truck left the roadway and overturned 15 miles west of Junction City.

Marci A. Scripter was transported to Geary Community Hospital after the crash, which occurred at 12:05 p.m. on Kansas Highway 18, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. A hospital spokeswoman said no information could be released on Scripter's condition.

Scripter was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

Flags to be lowered to honor soldiers

TOPEKA -- Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for two days this week to honor two soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

The lowered flags will honor Cpl. Daniel Cox, of Parsons, today and Sgt. Tyler Juden, of Winfield, on Tuesday. Both men were 23 when they died Sept. 12 in separate attacks.

Cox was killed in the Wardak Province, while Juden was killed near Turan, Afghanistan.

Wichita teachers to vote on contract

WICHITA -- Wichita teachers will vote electronically in the next two weeks on a contract that would include a two-year salary freeze in exchange for fewer training hours.

Under the tentative deal reached last week, teachers also would pay a $20 monthly health insurance premium, which would be waived if they participate in four wellness activities in 16 months. Currently, teachers pay no insurance premiums.
