Bethany professor to give public address
LINDSBORG -- Per Harling, Bethany College's 2010-11 Pearson Distinguished Professor of Swedish Studies, will give his first public address on Sept. 14.
Harling will speak on "The Hymns of Lina Sandell" and lead a hymn sing at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall.
Sandell, a Swedish composer, wrote many popular songs, including "Children of the Heavenly Father," "Thy Holy Wings" and "Day by Day." Harling is the author of a book about Sandell.
The event is free and open to the public.
Harling specializes in composing liturgical music and has written several books on worship life, hymns and biographies. In addition to teaching and working with Bethany students, staff and faculty, he will participate in several public events and chapel services as well as a performance of his folk dance Mass on Oct. 9.
Harling is also composing a morning prayer service specifically for Bethany. The world premiere will be 10 a.m. Oct. 1 in Presser Hall.
