Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg, Kansas, is pleased to announce that it has been named an Apple Distinguished School for its incorporation of 21st Century technology education through its high-tech learning environment and its one-to-one Apple laptop notebook initiative. Smoky Valley USD 400 launched its technology vision through its “technology integration program” in the 2001-2002 school year, and in 2003 piloted its 9-12 laptop notebook initiative. Since this time, USD 400 has expanded its one-to-one program to include grades 7-8, while grades 5-6 utilize a one-to-one classroom-use only laptop notebook program. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that have implemented a 21st century vision of education using Apple technology. Principal Marc Williams believes that the technology integration vision of Smoky Valley High School was instrumental in the Apple recognition. "This is a great recognition for Smoky Valley High School. It demonstrates what a dedicated staff we have, a staff who incorporate technology into their lessons which, in turn, prepare our students for the 21st century." The selection of Smoky Valley High School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights the school’s success in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology. Smoky Valley High School’s goal of personalizing education is supported by its Apple laptop notebook program. At SVHS students build skills 21st century skills while receiving an education designed to prepare them for the world of work. Both teaching and learning at SVHS reflect these skills as teachers and students explore new methods of research, project development, learning assessment, and differentiated education. Smoky Valley High School is a 4A school of 324 students in grades 9-12. Known for its fine arts and quality education, Smoky Valley High School is composed of students from the communities of Lindsborg, Marquette, Falun, Smolan, and Roxbury.
