Area Cancellations for Tuesday, Dec. 8

Salina Public Schools has announced the following cancellations:
1. All after school and evening activities and events, including sports, music and site councils scheduled for December 8, 2009. This includes the Y-Kids After School Programs.
2. All afternoon kindergarten classes and pre-school classes for December 8, 2009. This includes Coronado, Cottonwood, Heusner, Meadowlark, Oakdale, Schilling, Stewart and Sunset.
3. Salina Adult Education Center – all afternoon and evening classes for December 8, 2009. This includes classes held at both Memorial Hall and Heartland.
4. Heartland/Kennedy Early Learning Center – all afternoon and evening classes for December 8, 2009.
5. PLEASE NOTE: School will be dismissed at the REGULAR TIME and buses will run as normal. NO EARLY DISMISSAL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED for Salina Public Schools.
6. The Salina USD 305 Board of Education meeting scheduled for December 8, 2009 will go on as planned. However, all presentations and student awards scheduled for the meeting will be rescheduled.
Kansas Wesleyan University
Because of the inclement weather, Kansas Wesleyan University has canceled evening classes for Tuesday (December 8, 2009). Additionally, students are advised to use discretion in attending Tuesday afternoon classes.

Sylvan Grove USD 299: Closed Tues.
West Smith County USD 238: Closed Tues.
Businesses & Other Cancellations:
Dr. Ted Daughety's presentation on the Salina Regional Health Center Sleep Lab, planned for 7 p.m. today at University United Methodist Church, has been canceled. The presentation Daughety gave Tuesday afternoon will be broadcast on Access Channel 21 or is available on DVD by contacting Evelyn Maxwell at 827-3304.
Salina Aquatics Club at South High School 6-8pm has been canceled.
Y-Kids after school programs canceled at all locations.
The Salina Downtown Inc./Lee District Board meeting scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon has been canceled.
The Salina Christian Women's Prayer Connection at the Coffee Club postponed till Friday, Dec. 11.
The Smoky Hill Museum will be closed today, Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Salina Community Theatre Center for Theatre Arts - Acting, Vocal, and Dance Classes Canceled 12/8
Salina Community Theatre Center for Theatre Arts - Alice in Wonderland Rehearsal Canceled 12/8
Tamara Howe School of Dance classes for this evening have been canceled.
Salina Wrestling Club practice is canceled for this evening.
Salina Regional Health Center Infant Child Development Christmas Party is Postponed to Dec. 16.

How about keeping the kids in your nice warm car until the bus arrives?

USD305 never closes they would rather people risk driving their kids to school or have buses running and sliding all over the roads. They also think its better having all those high school kids driving around the parking lots sliding around too then to give one or two days for a snow day so streets can start to clear.

I can only imagine the amount of fender benders and accidents in the high school parking lots this afternoon. You really care about the safety of our children! Get with the program---take notice of all the other area schools that closed today--they had a little common sense.

I have a deep respect and support for USD 305. But to not cancel this morning with snow coming all day was just wrong. What was someone trying to prove by that?

Wait till the high schools let out half or more of them can't drive right on dry pavement hope usd 305 is prepared for that mess' hope no one gets hurt.

I don't think they ever take into consideration how many 15, 16, and 17 year old drivers they have that have little to no experience driving sub-par vehicles on snow and ice. Granted many do not have to go far, but it doesn't take much to cause an accident that could have been avoided.

All the other schools but not usd 305! my children ride the bus but today my husband stayed home to take them to school it is a good thing as the bus is already late and the kids would have froze. Just another stupid move by our puplic schools

to b771965: Drive them to the bus stop and keep them warm in the car until they get on the bus. It is not USD 305's responsibility to do everything for you! You can always send them to private school!!
