Two pay telephones mounted in public locations in Salina were pulled off their bases and stolen, apparently by someone using a vehicle and chain, according to a Salina police report.
The Elcotel phones, owned by Tele-connect of Chanute, were stolen from parking lots at 120 N. Broadway and 1118 N. Ninth between 12:01 a.m. Friday and 11:59 a.m. Sunday.
Loss for each phone was estimated at $1,000 for the phone and $29 for change it contained.

Oh well. Pay phones were a relic of the Sixties any way. Everyone has cell phones now. The only places you can find pay phones in the big metro is outside convenience stores that are watched 24-7.
