Lowers named principal of year

Lakewood Middle School principal Mike Lowers has been named Middle School Principal of the Year for Area III by the Kansas Association of Middle School Principals.

Area III is a 19-county region of north-central Kansas.

The award is designed to recognize outstanding administrators who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students, as well as making exemplary contributions to the profession.

Lowers, who is in his third year as principal at Lakewood, credits the staff for recent improvements in student achievement.

Lowers had been principal at Salina South Middle School for six years before moving to Lakewood, and before that was a teacher, counselor and principal in Wilson.
