Boy arrested for having gun on school property

A 16-year-old Salina boy was arrested after police believe he took a loaded revolver to South High School Tuesday morning.
Korrey R. Rinke, 1015 Scott, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon onto school property and possession of a firearm by a juvenile, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
Police recovered the .32-caliber H&R Model 732 from a bush at Jerry Ivey Park, which is where Rinke is believed to have hidden the weapon after taking it to the school at 730 E. Magnolia before school started, Mansfield said.
Mansfield said police don’t think the gun was ever inside the school.
Mansfield credited a student who was “alert and responsible” for telling a school resource officer about the weapon.
“Without the student information, the police would be reacting after the fact,” he said. “Police rely on information from citizens. The citizens give you the badge and put you out front, but without cooperation, you don’t have anything.”

To Wondering... does it make a difference? If my kids were in school with this student, I'd like to know what access they had to it, if this is someone they hang out with, etc. But I applaud the fact that regardless of who the information came from, the Journal would be willing to print the name.

To: Wondering who broke the law in reporting this story says....
Law enforcement can release the names of people ages 14 and older who are arrested for committing crimes, and the boy in question is 16. But even if he was younger than 14, and we found out his name and decided to report it, there is no law that would prevent us from reporting that information.

This is a serious situation but once again, isn't it against the law to post minors names and also their address. Is it necessary to break the law in reporting this incident in the paper? Am I wrong?

Smart kid that reported him. Crime prevention is best implemented when the citizens take an active role, and don't rely on the police to solve crime.
