By the Salina Journal

An architectural services contract for construction and remodeling of Fire Station No. 1 is one item Salina city commissioners will consider when they meet Monday.

The formal commission meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 107 of the City-County Building. A study session is planned at 2 p.m. in Room 107 B of the City-County Building. Topics for the study session are municipal water plan revisions and junkyards and salvage yards. Citizens who wish to address commissioners on a topic not on the agenda may do so at 3:45 p.m.

The architectural services contract with DMA Architects for the fire station construction is in the amount of $157,000.

The project at the fire station involves about 2,112 square feet of new construction and remodeling of 5,450 square feet at the fire station at 222 W. Elm. The first of two phases involves expanding the second floor over the administrative offices, remodeling the existing living space and replacing the electrical, heating and air and plumbing systems. Cost of that phase is estimated at $1,787,000.

The second phase involves expanding the administrative offices, remodeling the apparatus floor and constructing two additional apparatus bays on the west side of the hose tower at a cost of $1,200,000.

Also Monday, commissioners will:

n Consider changing the zoning classification of property at 303 E. Iron, 405 E. Iron and 121 N. Second, owned by the Salina Community Theatre, St. Francis Academy and the city of Salina, from shopping center and multi-family residential to planned development district, in order to create an expanded campus for the Salina Community Theatre.

n Consider accepting the drainage right-of-way and internal easement dedications and authorize the mayor to sign the Salina Community Theatre addition plat.
