Search to resume Tuesday for missing boater

CEDAR BLUFF RESERVOIR — High winds caused divers to suspend a search about 12:30 p.m. Monday for Larry Garrett of Claflin, who disappeared after a boat capsized Sunday afternoon at Cedar Bluff Reservoir.
Trego County Sheriff Rich Schneider said Monday afternoon that Garrett had not been located and that the search would resume today.
Two others in the boat, who were rescued, were Doug Haltom, of LaCrosse, and Jacob Garrett, 4, of Claflin, Larry Garrett’s son.
The boat went over near the south shore, close to the Apache camp site.
“We’re in the process of searching right now,” Chris Smith, manager of Cedar Bluff State Park, said Monday morning.
“I was out last night on the water, for a couple hours,” Smith said.
High winds caused the vessel to overturn. The 4-year-old and Haltom were found hanging onto trees near where the boat capsized.
The boat was spotted by a Kansas Highway Patrol airplane sent to assist in the search.
Also assisting in the search were members of the Plainville Rescue Squad, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Trego County Sheriff’s Office.
