Census celebrations for this weekend postponed

Because of the forecast for snow and cold this weekend, the Neighborhoods Count Celebrations planned for today and Sunday have been rescheduled.

The new dates are March 27 at the Peace Garden, at the corner of North Second Street and Forest Avenue; and April 18 at Sunset Park, 700 W. Sunset, and Pacific Park, 701 W. Pacific. The free concerts are designed to encourage participation in the 2010 US. Census.

In addition to music, free food and beverages will be served. We Count volunteers will be available to answer questions about the Census and how to participate.

The March 27 activity at The Peace Garden begins at noon; the April 18 activities in Sunset Park begin at noon, and those at Pacific Park at 3 p.m. For more information, call 827-1312.

Performers are:

n Cecelia Martinez, who grew up singing and playing the violin in mariachi bands in junior high and high school in El Paso, Texas. She will be accompanied by musicians Ken Hakoda and Dean Kranzler.

n The Flying Debris, a comedy juggling act featuring Richard Holmgren. Holmgren's performance is packed with zany stunts and lots of audience participation.

n John Highkin, who plays mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo and upright bass -- all while he's on stilts. He sings standards, swing tunes and vintage country songs.
