Guardsmen's children have camp available

Children of Kansas National Guardsmen will have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and build memories during the 10th annual Kansas National Guard Kids Camp Monday through Friday at the Kansas Regional Training Institute in Salina.

The camp is open to all children of National Guard members ages 9 to 12. A similar teen camp for children ages 13 to 17 will be Aug. 1 through 5 in Salina.

During the camp, participants will be divided into squads and take part in a variety of team-building exercises and experiences, games and sports, including target archery, target paintball, swimming, arts and crafts, military transportation simulator, M-16 laser simulator and a night road march.

The Salina police and fire departments will be involved with activities throughout the week.

Brig. Gen. Deborah Rose will speak to the students during a graduation ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
