Open house set near Hanover for

HANOVER -- The annual Christmas open house at the Hollenberg Pony Express Station State Historic Site near Hanover begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The wood burning stoves will be fired up and kerosene lamps will light the station. Popcorn strings and old-fashioned ornaments will decorate the Christmas tree. John Knabe and Ed Hajek, of Odell, Neb., will play Christmas music on accordion and tuba, and Martha Gerdes, of Hanover, will play accordion and lead visitors in singing German songs.

Volunteers Jennie Barley and Jim Scheetz will pop popcorn on the wood stove, and volunteers and Friends of Hollenberg Station will provide refreshments. Santa is expected to arrive at 7 p.m. with goodies for the children.
