Highway patrol kept busy working weather-related wrecks

Kansas Highway Patrol reports show that patrol troopers worked 24 injury accidents statewide Sunday, including one fatality in Ellsworth County. Twelve of those crashes were in the central and northwest Kansas area.

A Wichita woman was killed and a Wichita man was injured when their pickup truck slid across the median on Interstate Highway 70 in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Anna M. Myers, 42, a passenger in the pickup, was killed in the crash at 4:36 p.m. Sunday three miles east of Wilson, according to the patrol.

Driver Kevin W. Hoopes, 50, was in fair condition at Via-Christi Regional Medical Center's St. Francis campus Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Dennis D. Warner, 41, Kansas City, Kan., the driver of the semi, was not injured, according to the report.

Other crashes the KHP worked in the area and those injured were:

n David S. Bramhall, 20, of Omaha, Neb., was in critical condition Monday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita after he lost control of his car and it entered the median and rolled at 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate Highway 135, six miles north of the junction with U.S. Highway 81. Passengers in Bramhall's car -- Christopher J. Michener, 20, of Doniphan, Neb.; Kevin A. Bresson, 20, of Burlington, Neb.; and Kyle J. Powers, 21, of Nebraska -- were all treated at Salina Regional Health Center.

n Jacob P. Hoskins, 32, of Salina, was treated at Salina Regional after his pickup truck rolled and came to rest on the northbound guardrail of an icy bridge on I-135 at 3:03 p.m. Sunday north of Magnolia Road.

n Margaret M. Euse, 41, of Silver Creek, was admitted overnight and dismissed Monday from Salina Regional after her van was struck by a car driven by Sarah M. Forman, 24, of Salina. Euse had pulled over on the shoulder of I-135 northbound, 11 miles south of Salina, at 3:45 p.m. to assist the driver of a pickup truck that had rolled. Forman lost control of her car and struck Euse's van. Forman and her passenger, Rebecca Bowman, 25, Salina, were treated at Salina Regional, as were the passenger's in Euse's van: Jane M. Watts, 49, and Patricia S. Hanson, 40, both of Osceola, Neb.

n Regan M. Johnson, 19, of Hastings, Neb.; and Michaela M. Soden, 18, of Doniphan, Neb., were treated at Salina Regional after the pickup truck they were riding in entered the median and rolled at 6:50 p.m. on U.S. Highway 81 north of the junction with Kansas Highway 106 in Ottawa County. Neil S. Dufford, 18, of Midland, Texas, the driver of the truck, and passenger, Morgan A. Moskal, 18, of Windsor, Colo., were not injured.

n John M. Rohrer, 20, of Louisville, Ohio, was reported in stable condition at Hays Medical Center on Monday after his pickup truck rolled twice when he lost control on a bridge at 7:04 p.m. on I-70, about six and a half miles east of Victoria.

n Belinda K. Jewell, 37, of McPherson, was treated at McPherson Memorial Hospital after her pickup truck left I-135, hit a guardrail and rolled into the ditch after she tried to change lanes on an overpass at 5:30 p.m., four miles south of McPherson.

n Alicia R. Mercado, 24, Vincent Lurray, 7, and Allaya Lurray, 2, all of Wichita, were treated at Salina Regional after their car slid off I-70 about five miles south of Westfall at 2:55 p.m.

n Constance H. Davis, 51, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was reported to be in stable condition at Hays Medical Center after she lost control of her Jeep at 2:25 p.m. while driving east on I-70 about 1.5 miles east of Walker. The Jeep crossed the median and rolled, coming to rest on the westbound outside shoulder.

n Patricia O'Neil, 55, of Centennial, Colo., was treated at Gove County Medical Center after her sport utility vehicle went through the I-70 median at 11:05 a.m. about two miles west of Quinter into a lane of oncoming traffic, entered the south ditch, went through a fence and overturned.

n Abigail J. Nelson, 19, of Meade, who was treated at Mercy Hospital after her sport utility vehicle rolled into a ditch when she lost control on I-135 18 miles south of McPherson at 4:34 p.m.

n Janice Y. Hutchinson, 62; Michael Hutchinson, 15; Aaliyah Hutchinson, 14; and Taylor M. Saporito, 2, all of Junction City, were transported to Hays Medical Center after their car rolled in a ditch on I-70 at 3:53 p.m. nine miles west of Hays. Janice Hutchinson lost control of the vehicle while attempting to pass. Their conditions were not available.
