Power poles struck

Salina Journal

Power was cut off to several blocks of north Salina on Friday afternoon after a motor vehicle collision resulted in two broken power poles.

Around 3 p.m., a truck towing a backhoe entered the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Street and was struck by a minivan.

The truck then struck a power pole, breaking it off several feet above the ground. Tension on the power line snapped the next pole to the west on Pacific Avenue, sending the power lines to the ground.

Police were sent to block several intersections in the area, between Santa Fe Avenue and Ninth Street on Pacific Avenue, because of the downed power lines. The intersections were blocked for much of the afternoon.

No one in either vehicle was injured, according to the Salina Police Department.

By 5 p.m. Friday, Westar crews were preparing to replace the two broken poles.

The identities of the drivers of the vehicles were not available Friday evening.
