Harley owners plan benefit poker run
The Salina Harley Owners Group is sponsoring a poker run Sunday, with registration from 10 a.m. to noon at Kenwood Park Shelter No. 1.
Money raised in the poker run will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Cost is $15 a hand or three hands for $25.
First-place prize is a five-night stay at Fairfield Inn in Spearfish, S.D., for the 2009 Sturgis Rally. Second-place prize is a leather jacket and chaps donated by Harley-Davidson/Honda of Salina. Third-place prize is $250 in cash donated by Salina Harley Owners Group.

Kickball tournament set for Saturday
The Love, Chloe Foundation is sponsoring a Love, Chloe Kickball Jam from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the East Crawford Recreation Area, Fields 1 and 2.
Prizes, drawings, food and entertainment will be offered. The games will begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day, with the championship game at 5:30 p.m.
The Love, Chloe Foundation is a volunteer organization set up to provide financial assistance to families with children battling brain tumors. The foundation also provides funds for pediatric brain tumor research.
AACP Block Party to be Saturday
The annual NAACP Block Party will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Carver Center, 315 N. Second.
There will be drawings for cash and prizes, and food and entertainment will be offered. Bingo will begin at 4:30 p.m.
People who have not yet registered to vote in the Nov. 4 presidential election may do so at the party.

McPherson Scottish Festival Sept. 26-28
McPHERSON -- The McPherson Scottish Festival, set for Sept. 26 to 28 in Lakeside Park, features activities for both children and adults.
The weekend begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the bandshell with a free clan fire ceremony and concert by balladeer Alex Beaton.
Festivities Sept. 27 begin with Highland dance, athletics, and a pipe and drum competition at 9 a.m. The massed bands and Parade of Tartans will be at noon, and athletic awards will be presented at 4:30 p.m. A rugby demonstration match between the Wichita Barbarians and the Salina Crusaders will start at 2 p.m.
Activities Sept. 28 begin with a nondenominational Kirking of the Tartan church service at 9:30 a.m.
Sheepdog herding, Renaissance-style fencing and musical entertainment by Ellis Island and Tairis and the Shortleaf Band will be featured Sept. 27 and 28.
Children's activities and games, as well as Celtic product vendors, British car displays and clan tents, will be featured both days. Evening concerts also are planned.
A free shuttle will operate from the McPherson High School parking lot from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28.
