The McPherson Opera House Opens its Doors: Tap Kids To Play on Valentine’s Day

2/8/2010

McPherson, Kansas—Twenty-four years and $8 million later, the McPherson Opera House is throwing open its doors for its first public performance featuring the Tap Kids, a troupe of eight professional dancers, mostly in their teens, who take the audience on a rollicking trip through the events leading up to high school graduation.
“This is a family-friendly show that draws big crowds and big applause,” John Holecek, Executive Director, said. “They are on a Kansas tour and are playing Century 2 in Wichita two days before they play us on Valentine’s Day at 3 p.m. Century 2 is a 2,100 seat house, and we have 500 seats so the experience at the Opera House is way more intimate. You’re right down on the action. Couple that with our state-of-the art sound and lights, and the audience is in for quite a show.
“Not only that, the dancers are holding a master class after the performance from 5:30 to 6:30,” Holecek continued. “This is a chance for area tappers to learn from the pros. There are 25 slots, and the cost is $25.”
Adult tickets are $32, $27 and $22. Students and children with parents qualify for a $10 ticket. Tickets can be booked online at the Opera House website, www.mcphersonoperahouse.org, or by coming to the Opera House box office at 219 South Main or by calling 620.241.1952. Discount tickets can only be booked at the box office or by phone. Information and tickets for upcoming acts can be found at the Opera House website.
Tap Kids is underwritten by Home State Bank & Trust in McPherson. The Lisa Waldhauer Education Fund is sponsoring a school show for U.S.D. 418 Middle School students the next day.
