Calvary Echoes to perform in Concordia
CONCORDIA -- The Southern Gospel music group the Calvary Echoes will appear at the Teens for Christ Rally at 7 p.m. July 18 at the historic Brown Grand Theatre, 310 W. Sixth.
This rally also will mark Kent and Lisa Otott's 25 years with North Central Kansas Teens for Christ. Friends and TFC alumni along with current students are invited to attend.

North Central Kansas Teens For Christ is a local, independent, nondenominational youth ministry working in a 13-county area of north-central Kansas and south-central Nebraska.
Jazz trio to play at La Strada dell' Arte
LINDSBORG -- Brandon Draper and his jazz trio from Kansas City will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday during Lindsborg's first La Strada dell' Arte. Families and friends of all ages can try out an evening of "art on the street."
Draper, originally from Falun, started drum lessons at age 5 and discovered his love for music while sitting in with his father's blues band. A graduate of Smoky Valley High School, Brandon holds a bachelor's degree in percussion from Bethany College and an master's degree in percussion from the University of New Mexico.
La Strada dell' Arte runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in downtown Lindsborg. The public will be able to create chalk art on the sidewalks.
Lindsborg Live! is sponsoring the Brandon Draper Group and will seek donations to help underwrite the jazz trio's performance.

Youth art, photos featured at meeting
ABILENE -- The public is invited to attend the 28th annual Meeting of the Arts Council of Dickinson County from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 17 at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, 200 S.E. Fourth.
Artwork created at the Chaffee-Bradshaw Art Classes and photographs from The Zoom Factor youth photography classes will be exhibited. There also will be refreshments and music provided by students from group violin classes.
The arts council also will introduce the new Youth Membership and offering every student joining that evening a free T-shirt and one entry in a drawing for a MP3 player. Adults have the opportunity to join the organization as a new member or renew their membership. This event is free and open to the public.
Agriculture photos on display at bank
CLAY CENTER -- A free exhibit of 14 original photographs from Community Chamber Orchestra's 2009 "Agriculture and the Arts" project will be on display Monday through July 17 in the lobby of Union State Bank, 701 Fifth.
At l p.m. July 17, the pictures will be distributed to their permanent owners in businesses and public places in Clay County and Central Kansas.
Photographers whose pictures were framed are Susan Hammond, Nolan Sump, Rhys Baker, Mary Roth, Jamie Bloom, Jim Beck, Jerry Patterson, Michelle Tessaro and Linda Shaw. Their contact information, as well as that of other contributing photographers, will be available at the display for those wishing to purchase their work.
The lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and July 17, and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Paintings, sculpture on display in Lincoln
LINCOLN -- "Long Shadows," an exhibition of paintings by Louise Hutchison, of McPherson, and figurative sculpture by Chris Hersberger, of Inman, will be on display through Aug. 21 at the Lincoln Art Center, 126 E. Lincoln Ave.. The opening reception and gallery walk will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Hutchison creates landscape, still life and portraits in pastels and oils.
Hersberger's sculpture shows the length that shadows fall, and men and women enjoying work and life. The sculptures represent her heritage.

Variety of sculpture make up exhibit
McPHERSON -- The exhibit "Sculpture from Paper to Steel" will be showing through August at the VAAM Gallery, located in the McPherson Opera House, 223 S Main. Eleven guest artists of sculpture will display their work in a vast variety of media
Gallery visitors will enter under an eight-foot spider sculpture by Richie Bergen, of Salina. Other pieces on display include paper sculpture by David Robert Olson that represents movement. Caroline Kahler's clay sculptures are influenced by natural objects. VAAM Gallery artist Michaela Groeblacher will exhibit three new stoneware works from the series "Woman and Eggs."
Carved yellow cedar wood by Michael Phillips, alabaster figures by Stacy Hall and Donald Lind, limestone sculptures by Beth Vannatta, bronze work by Ed Pogue and Richard Bergen, bronze and Fiberglas sculpture by Rebecca Ann Zerger and steel work by Don Osborn are part of the exhibit.
A summer party reception will be held to honor the artists from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the gallery.
VAAM Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
Russell-area artists featured at Deines
RUSSELL -- "Local Color," the annual Russell Area Artists Exhibit, will be at the Deines Cultural Center on Sunday through Aug. 19. The opening reception is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Works in oil and acrylics, pastels, ceramics, wood, iron, digital work and mixed media pieces will be shown from over 30 different Russell area artists.
Exhibiting artists from Russell are Peter Cochran, Edna Giebler, John Gruenwald, Thelma Hutchinson, Jerry Miller, Ralph and Doloris Pederson, Peggy Schoenberger, Daron Woelk. Johnny Scott and Bunker Hill.
Artists Kathy Gregory, of Assaria, and Kevin Lundy and Gordon Mai, of Wilson, have contributed work, along with Tess Dunkel-McKnight, of Luray, and Robert Foster, of LaCrosse. Jim Schiels and Eric Abraham, of Lucas, are exhibiting, as well as Mary Johnson and Gloria Zachgo, of Salina, Senta Kuchar, of Victoria, and Jan Schaffer, of Liebenthal.
From Great Bend, artists include Joyce Barker, Char Brown, Diane Engle, Karen LaPierre and Alice Young. Hays artists Stan Detrixhe, Tina Nipper-Hagley, Jennifer McMillan, Wilfred Pfeifer, Azar Vaghefi and Christine Wagner are showing their work.
Ceramists Steve Carney, of Hoisington, and Kent Thompson, of Osborne, have pottery in the show. Daniel Stephan, who does wire tree sculpture, is also planning to exhibit.
The center, 820 North Main, is open from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
