A week for births By Kathy Malm Petunia is a Momma!!! I’ll start with the statement, “We really didn’t mean to get into pigs”. My husband, Harper, was given a couple little cute piglets last year. We thought they would be a great addition to the farm. Being the city girl that I am, I didn’t know the work hogs would require. They are so darned smart! I swear, they can escape any pen you try and hold them in! Now a year later and several other pig purchases...we have around 30. Petunia (my favorite) just had 13 little ones. She is such a pet to us, but I wasn’t sure if she would let us be there and around the babies. She did, but heaven help you if you pick up a piglet and it starts to squeal! Petunia is NOT amused when that happens! Our horse, Tessa, watched from the barn door during the delivery. It was quite a night. Linda Hubalek, owner, Smoky Hill Bison, also had a couple new arrivals this last week. Pictured are Hilda who had her baby Monday and Esther, who gave birth Tuesday. I know there have also been a couple litters of kittens born this week, so if anyone out there needs some barn cats…I can hook you up! Why is it that my barn cats are the best producers on the farm?
