Governor Sebelius Recognizes Wireless Provider for Helping Raise Public Awareness in April: Child Abuse Prevention Month
SALINA, KS, April 21, 2008 — To help raise awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, U.S. Cellular is donating a $5,000 grant to Child Abuse Prevention Services (C.A.P.S.) in Salina and a $15,000 grant and free wireless phones and service to Hope Unlimited in Iola. The donations will support prevention services and programs that benefit area families in need.
“We must take every possible step to protect children who live with abuse and neglect,” said Governor Sebelius. “We appreciate the work done by these organizations, and others like them, which help children in crisis. I applaud U.S. Cellular for supporting efforts to help children and families in need.”
The $5,000 U.S. Cellular grant to C.A.P.S. will help fund Chris’s Place, a child advocacy center providing services for victims of sexual or physical abuse under the age of 18.
Hope Unlimited will use its $15,000 grant to fund the Child Advocacy Center, which offers outreach and counseling for young victims of domestic violence. Additionally, U.S. Cellular’s phone donation will support a 24-hour crisis hotline that provides immediate intervention and transportation for victims of domestic violence and their children.
“At U.S. Cellular, we are committed to supporting organizations that ensure the safety of children who can’t protect themselves,” said John E. Rooney, CEO of U.S. Cellular. “We are proud to partner with both of these groups and commend Governor Sebelius for her dedication to this issue.”
