County sets date to vote on new grid system

3/26/2008

The Saline County Commission will have a last public meeting and a final vote on the county’s proposed two-mile road grid plan at its April 8 meeting.

That decision followed a recommendation during a Wednesday commission meeting from Commissioner Randy Duncan, who has been skeptical of the plan. Duncan said he wanted the commission to first take a planned visit to Dickinson County next Thursday for a tour of bridges there. Dickinson County builds its own bridges in low-traffic areas — rather than hiring a contractor — and part of the reason for Saline County’s grid plan is the lack of funds for bridge replacement.

Commissioner Sherri Barragree seconded Duncan’s motion to allow an extra week before the vote.

“I think it’s a good idea to place it in a couple of weeks rather than next week, but for different reasons than Randy,” Barragree said. “We need time to advertise it to the public so they do have one more chance (to comment).”
