Pomeroy to playat Blue Goat

Pomeroy will perform with Sarah Vonderhaar at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Blue Goat, 232 N. Santa Fe.

The show is part of Pomeroy's tour, the Beauty and the Beats. Vonderhaar (a.k.a. The Beauty) is a rock and roll beauty queen and former America's Next Top Model contestant from Chicago. Pomeroy (the Beats) has been touring and recording a blend of rock, pop and hip-hop for more than 10 years. Pomeroy has traveled overseas to play for allied troops in the Middle East with Armed Forces Entertainment. Pomeroy is currently supporting its fifth national release, "A New Reflection."

Tickets cost $7 in advance and $10 at the door.

Art a la Carte ends season with the blues

Blues guitarist and vocalist Dan Bliss, of Merriam, will be the featured entertainer at Art a la Carte at 12:20 p.m. today at Robert Caldwell Plaza, between the City-County Building and SalinathePublic Library.

Originally from upstate New York, Bliss has made his home for almost 20 years in Kansas City, inspired by the traditions of blues and jazz and the wealth of local talent. In addition to working as a solo acoustic act, he also hashas alsoplayed electric guitar with the Kelley Hunt Band and his own band Bluetonium. He also leads a trio and occasionally appears with Kansas City jazz guitar great Rod Fleeman.

Concert-goers are invited to bring a brown bag. In case of bad weather, the performance will be held in the Watson Room of the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, 151 S. Santa Fe. There is no charge for admission.

Jazz combo to perforromforin family concertseries

A faculty jazz combo from Friends University will be the next featured group in the Kansas Wesleyan University-University United Methodist Church Family Concert Series.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 2 in the University United Methodist Church, Santa Fe and Claflin. The concert is open to the public at no charge. A freewill offering will be taken. A reception will follow the concert.

'Piano at the Movies' recitals offered

The Salina Area Piano Teachers League will offer to recitals.

"Piano at the Movies" will be presented at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio.

The concerts are open to the public at no charge. Donations will be accepted.

Army Field Band to play in Colby

COLBY -- The United States Army Field Band will present aAfree public performance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Colby Community Building. The concert is sponsored by the Western Plains Arts Association.

As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, the Field Band travels thousands of miles each year throughout the nation and abroad. Since its formation in 1946, the Field Band has appeared in all 50fiftystates and in more than 30thirtycountries on four continents.

The Field Band's members, selected by highly competitive audition, represent some of the finest musical talent in America. More than five decades as the military's most traveled musicians have earned them the title, "The Musical Ambassadors of the Army."".

Flutist to perform at Sandzén Gallery

LINDSBORG -- Flutist Frances Shelly will perform a solo recital at 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Sandzén Gallery, 401 N. First.

Shelly has worked as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician for 35thirty-fiveyears, performing in major venues throughout the United States and Europe.

The Washington Post recently described her performancesplayingas "powerful and evocative." As principal flute in the Wichita Symphony, she has been featured on several occasions.

Originally from Dearborn, Mich., Shelly earned her bachelor's, master's and doctorate of mMusic degrees in flute performance from the University of Michigan. After graduation, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in West Berlin, Germany. Shelly serves on the music faculty at Wichita State University.

The gallery program will include works by Bach, Dring, Tatakishvil, Gaubert, Gnattali and Schocker.

Fort Hays Singers to give concert

LURAY -- The Fort Hays Singers will be in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Stone Church.

Fort Hays Singers is the top choral ensemble on the Fort Hays State University campus. The group consists of 16 singers chosen by select audition from the membership of the concert choir. Fortt.Hays Singers serve as ambassadors for the university by representing FHSU on regional and international tours, at festivals, banquets, and various local, statewide,and regional events.

The group is lead by Terry Crull, director of choral activities.

Golden Oldies concert at Brown Grand

CONCORDIA -- Aclassic rock 'n' roll concert by the central Nebraska musical entourage,"Revival" will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Grand Theatre.

The seven-piece band will feature the Golden Oldies of rock 'n' roll from the '50s, '60s and '70s. The band covers songs by Connie Francis, the Beatles, Credence Clearwater, Conway Twitty and many others.

Prior to the concert, the Huckleberry Tea House will serve a '50s nostalgia meal. The menu will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, hot roll and fruited Jell-O with whipped cream. K-State students featured at KWUThe Gallery

The works of graduate art students from Kansas State University will be featured in the next exhibit at Kansas Wesleyan University.

The Kansas State Graduate Student Exhibition will run from Nov. 3 to 28 in The Gallery, Sams Hall of Fine Arts. The exhibition is open to the public at no charge, however parental discretion is advised as some works may contain partial or full nudity. The Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends by appointment.

According to Lori Wright, aAssistant pProfessor of aArt at Kansas Wesleyan, the exhibition will feature paintings, drawings and sculpture.

Gallery patrons will have the chance to interact with the artists during two events on Nov. 4. A Gallery Talk will be at noon in The Gallery. It is an informal brown bag lunch event during which gallery patrons can raise questions, offer responses or listen to others share. Immediately following the Gallery Talk, patrons are invited to stay for the In Focus presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. The presentation will include slides and discussion from some of the exhibition artists about the progression of their body of work. An in-depth discussion will follow.

K-State graduate students whose art will be featured in the exhibition are painting majors Adam Achey, Emily Glass, Lasbrey Nwachukwu and Jason Youngkin; sculpture major Carrie Becker; and ceramics major Susan Nam.

Possible Headline: Seats aAvailable on Trip to Abilene

Brown Grand offers Christmas trip

CONCORDIA -- The Brown Grand Theatre Board of Directors is offering a holiday bus trip to Abilene to see "Christmas My Way -- A Sinatra Holiday Bash" at the Great Plains Theatre Festival on Dec. 7. The performance will feature four singers from New York, Virginia and Kansas.

Participants will board the bus at noon on and travel to Abilene for the matinee show. After the matinee, the group will stop at the Brookville Hotel in Abilene for dinner. Magician to perform in Hoxie

HOXIE -- The Western Plains Arts Association will present The Eric Vaughn Magic Revue at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hoxie High School Auditorium.

Eric Vaughn will present his award-winning magic and illusion show. The show includes illusions including a famous Houdini escape, audience participation tricks and Vaughn's assistant's rope escape routine.

Admission is by WPAA season ticket or $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door.
