In state Republican Senate races, incumbent Pete Brungardt, R-Salina, squeaked by Salina challenger Tom Arpke to win the 24th District primary, 3,962 to 3,760. In the 36th District, Larry Salmans bested Robert Tilford, 4,582 to 3,064.
In the Republican race for the 6th District of the Kansas State School Board, incumbent Kathy Martin topped challenger Bill Pannbacker 15,329 to 14,149.
In the Kansas House of Representatives, Republican Incumbent Don Schroeder garnered 1,452 votes to Mitch Powell’s 627 in the 74th District primary. Incumbent Virginia Beamer defeated Don Hineman by five votes in the 118th District race, 1,853 to 1,848.
In the 6th District of the Kansas Board of Education, Incumbent Kathy Martin, with 15,329 votes, defeated Bill Pannbacker, 14,149.
Two incumbents fell in the Rooks County primary. Republican John Ruder defeated Second District county commissioner Gary LeRock, 258 to 175, and Randy Axelson’s 455 votes were enough to defeat Rooks County Sheriff Roger Mongeau. Daryl Thornburg finished second with 412 votes, followed by Ryan Cellmer, 311, Mongeau, 177, and Jeannine Spiess, 24.
Third District Rooks County commissioner Patrick W. Hageman won the Republican primary with 258 votes to 217 from challenger Sherlyn D. Kats.
