The city plans to ask the bureau of Alcohol Firearms and Tobacco to take the licenses of 10 people in Salina who are selling or repairing guns out of their homes without city approval.

"We are going to ask them (ATF) to take their license at their (home) location," said Dean Andrew, Salina's planning and zoning administrator. "Our goal, based on the board's guidance, is to have firearm dealers in commercial locations."

"Hi, Friends of the River. I'm from Friends of the Street. Please fix the streets. I cannot afford a new car like Friends of the River can, and the streets are horrible. So forget the river and fix the streets."

The city has a long-range plan in place for street improvements. Two current examples are South Ninth Street and north Salina's Pacific Avenue. Anyway, not all river supporters have new cars. They come from all walks of life.

"I was wondering what ever happened about the chemical plume that was traveling from the base to the city. Has anything ever been done about the cleanup? Thank you."

Bands from Mo., Kan., to raise money for animals

HAYS, Kan. (AP) -- Several bands from Missouri and Kansas are gathering in Hays this weekend to raise money for a program that spays and neuters feral cats. Sixteen bands will be performing Saturday at Fort Hays State University in the Katze II music festival. Organizers say last year's event raised about $1,000 for the FHSU Cat Program, and this year they're hoping to double that amount.
